Itinerary

DAY 01: Mangalore

On arrival at Mangalore airport you are greeted by a Floohoo representative and transported to Neeleswar. Check into your boutique resort and spend the rest of the day at leisure (95 kms , 02 hrs drive). You could opt to relax on the beach adjoining the resort, go for leisurely walks or just laze, taking in the sun on a deck chair or snuggle into hammock. Overnight at Nileshwaram.

DAY 02: Nileshwaram

After breakfast, you could go out on the beach or perhaps take an Ayurveda massage or treatment. Else you could learn some basic Yoga. Spend the day at leisure. In the evening, you will be taken on a guided tour to the fort at Bekal. Overnight at Nileshwaram.

DAY 03: Nileshwaram

Spend the day at leisure. In the evening you will visit Anandashram. The ashram (hermitage) was founded by Swami Ramdas, a prominent philosopher in 1931. Ramdas believed “Here every man, woman or child, to whatever denomination, creed or caste the person may belong, shall have free access.” Overnight at Nileshwaram.

DAY 04: Nileshwaram – Tellicherry

After breakfast, you will be transported south, to Tellicherry (80 kms, 02 hrs, 30 mnts drive). On arrival, check into your home stay that will be your residence for the night. The home stay is renowned for its delicious homemade food. In the afternoon, you will witness a Theyyam performance at temple nearby. Overnight at home stay in Tellicherry

DAY 05: Tellicherry

In the morning go out to explore the spice market in Tellicherry and villages nearby. You will experience certain aspects of the life of the people here and their culture. Returning to the resort, after lunch, you could opt to simply relax else witness a cooking demonstration by your host. She will demonstrate how certain traditional recipes that have been handed down generations are made. Overnight at the home stay in Tellicherry.

DAY 06: TELLICHERRY – WAYANAD

After breakfast, you will be transported to Wayanad a small town set amidst scenic surroundings in the mountains of the Western Ghat range of mountains (100 kms ,03 hrs drive) On your journey you will pass rolling paddy fields interspersed with coconut groves and as you climb up the mountains virgin forests, tea estates and spice gardens.
On arrival at Wayanad, check in to your Tree house. Set high above the lush canopy of the rain forest, the thatch roofs and bamboo walls of the tree house are built by members of indigenous tribes using traditional techniques with locally sourced materials. The tree houses contain all requisite domestic comforts and amenities.
In the afternoon, you will be escorted on a soft trek in the forest surrounding the resort by its resident naturalist – you are likely to spot Nilagiri Langur, the Malabar Giant Squirrel, Malabar Grey Hornbill, Yellow Browed Bulbul besides a wide range of other species endemic to the Western Ghats and a fabulous array of butterflies. Overnight in the tree house.

DAY 07: WAYANAD

Early morning, you will visit one of the two wild life sanctuaries in the area – Tholpetty and Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuaries together form the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, contiguous with the Nagarhole National Park in neighbouring Karnataka, together, a part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve.
Later in the afternoon you will be taken on a guided tour of the Edakkal Caves that date to the Stone Age. Rather than being caves in the commonly understood sense, they were formed when a large piece of rock broke away from a larger mass and caused clefts or fissures on the cliff face. The walls of these caves display pictographs of human and animal figures, tools and yet-to-be-deciphered symbols that date back to over 8,000 years ago. They are the only such known examples in South India. Overnight in the tree house.

DAY 08: Wayanad- Cheruthuruthy

After breakfast, you will transported to Calicut ( 03 hrs drive). Descending the mountains and reaching Calicut in time for lunch. Try a Calicut Special Biryani, a local favourite and simply delicious. Later you will be transported to Cheruthuruthy ( 3 hrs drive)a small town situated on the banks of the river Bharathappuzha. Cheruthuruthy is also home to Kerala Kalamandalam, an institution imparting education in classical dance forms. Founded in 1930, art forms like Kathakali, Kutiyattam, Mohiniyaattam, Panchavadyam besides numerous other disciplines have found a new lease of life and vitality here, taught following an ancient system of learning that requires student and teacher to live together.
On arrival, check in to your hotel. Overnight at Cheruthuruthy.

DAY 09: Cheruthuruthy – Cochin

In the morning, after breakfast you will be taken on a guided tour of Kalamandalam where you could interact with the teachers and students. After lunch you will be transported to Cochin (110 kms,3 hrs drive). After checking in to your hotel, spend the rest of the evening at leisure. Overnight at Cochin.

DAY 10: Cochin

After breakfast you will be taken on a guided tour of the heritage area in Fort Kochi – visiting the St.Francis church and Chinese fishing net. From Fort Kochi, the tour will go on to an ancient spice market in Mattancherry, explore the antique shops on Jew Street, visit the oldest Synagogue on the subcontinent and then the Dutch Palace. In the evening, you will view a Kathakali dance performance at an auditorium nearby. Overnight at your hotel in Cochin.

DAY 11: Cochin – Houseboat

After breakfast, you will be transported to the Boat jetty in Alleppey (70 kms, 2 hrs drive) to board a houseboat and embark on a backwater cruise. The cruise continues through the day passing through palm fringed canals, past paddy fields and quaint villages, with the lullaby of the water lapping against the hull of the boat, until close to sunset when the boat will anchor in the middle of the lake or else close to shore. Overnight on the houseboat.

DAY 12: Houseboat – Kumarakom

After breakfast, disembark at your hotel boat jetty in Kumarakom a hamlet beside the Vembanad Lake. On arrival at Kumarakom check in to your hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure. You could opt to enjoy an Ayurveda massage. In the evening, the hotel’s chef will hold a cookery demonstration of how some of Kerala’s traditional cuisine is made and you could perhaps learn a few recipes. And later before dinner the hotel will showcase some of the traditional art forms of Kerala. Kumarakom is a cluster of little islands on the Vembanad Lake, and the bird sanctuary spread across the islands is home to a fascinating variety of endemic and migratory birds. Overnight at Kumarakom.

DAY 13: KUMARAKOM

Cochin International Airport – After breakfast, You will be transported to the airport in Cochin in time to board a flight to your onward destination.
