After breakfast you will be transported to Vaikom where you will be welcomed into a traditional Kerala house by members of the resident family.
Your guided tour starts with cruise in a non-mechanised country boat through a series of scenic narrow canals and then moves on to a small river, its banks adorned by seemingly endless stretches of coconut palms interspersed with large tracts of emerald green paddy fields.
After the cruise, you will return to lunch with your hosts relishing a traditional Kerala lunch served on plantain leaves.
After lunch, you will go on a tour of the village experiencing different aspects in the life of its residents. The main occupation of the villagers here is making rope from coconut fibre, making earthen pots, weaving straw mats with wild pineapple leaves, collecting sand from the river bed to sell, fishing and farming. En route, you will also visit a weaving centre to see villagers produce hand-spun and hand-woven cloth out of cotton. Later you will visit an ancient church in the area and also explore a market in the village. You may also opt to visit the Vaikom Mahadevi temple.
Your tour ends shortly before sunset and you will be transferred to your hotel.
