Beautiful Waterfalls of Idukki

Thommankuthu is very scenic and famous seven-step waterfall located about 17 km from Thodupuzha in Idukki district of Kerala. It is named after the great hunter, Mr. Thommachen Kuruvina kunnel, who let the world know of this beautiful waterfall in the jungle in the late 1920s. Today this waterfall is a famous picnic spot. One can do activities like bathing in the waterfall and trekking here. It attracts a huge number of nature and adventure lovers.
Anchuruli Tunnel Waterfalls
Anchuruli Tunnel is an extension of the Idukki dam. It is another picturesque picnic spot located only 3 km from Kanchiyar village. Achuruli is acclaimed for it waterfalls cascading among the beautiful western ghats. It is an exciting place to visit for tourist as one can also trek and listening to the sounds of beautiful birds. This place is serene yet adventurous and a must visit place on your Idukki trip.
Cheeyappara waterfall lies on the Kochi – Madurai highway between Neriamangalam and Adimali in Idukki district. It is around 40 km away from Munnar. The Cheeyappara Waterfall cascades down a rocky slope in seven steps and is a delight to watch. This waterfall does not dry up even during summer.
The main attraction of the place Valara is the Valara waterfalls. It is located between Adimaly and Kothamangalam, at a distance of 42 kms from Munnar. Surrounded by dense forests, the clear and chilly water gushing downwards is a beautiful sight which shouldn’t be missed on your Idukki trip.
Njandirukki waterfall is located near Poomala town in Idukki district. It is a hidden beauty in the depths of forest. The stream originating from Cheppukulam hill slips and sidles crab like across a treacherous rock at the foothill of Poomala-Methotty forest area. Quite, serene and beautiful, it is a popular location for shooting film songs.
The Rainbow waterfalls at Keezharkuth in Idukki are a sight to not be missed on your Idukki trip. The waterfall cascades down a rock from a height of about 1500 m. The forest around this spot is home to various medicinal plants and hence this area is popular for Ayurvedic medicines.
